Service Opportunities – April 18

Alumni Weekend is coming up and the SMUS Archives needs some help to get the trophies and silver cups polished, shiny and ready to be on display!

They are having sessions on Saturday, April 27 from 10 am to noon, and on Sunday April 28 from 1 to 3 pm

On Alumni Weekend, SMUS is hosting several events and they need student volunteers to help out!

They need help on Friday, May 3 for about 45 minutes, handing out name tags.

Also on Saturday, May 4, they offer fun activities for children right here on campus. They need supervisors for the Bouncy Castle, the Dunk Tank, and Bubble Soccer. You would be working with an adult volunteer to help set up and make sure the kids are having fun!

They also need help later in the day on Saturday, May 4 with some clean up. This could also be on the morning of Sunday, May 5.

The Greater Victoria Down Syndrome Society is hosting the Canadian Down Syndrome Society National Conference in May and they need help with a variety of tasks. The conference is at the Ocean Point Delta Hotel in downtown Victoria.

They need help on Friday, May 10 from 4 to 8 pm and on Saturday, May 11 from 7:30 am to midday. This opportunity is for people ages 16 and older.

Ballet Victoria needs volunteers for their Senior’s Event – Tea for Tutu. Their production of Alice in Wonderland will be performed inat St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on May 7 and May 8 at 2 pm. Volunteers will assist with checking the guests in, taking donations, helping seniors to their seats, and preparing, serving and cleaning up refreshments after the performance. Chosen volunteers will arrive around 1 pm to get briefed on their task for the day.

The Saanich Cycling Festival is looking for a children’s activity assistant. The festival features a wide variety of free activities and they are looking for volunteers to assist with organizing the children’s games and activities at the main celebration site.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Welcome, encourage and engage participants in the activity
• Assist with set-up, clean-up and take-down
• 14 years or older
• Organized and quick-to-learn
• Personable, responsible and responsive to changing situations

This event takes place on May 5, and the shifts are 3 to 5 hours long between the hours of 10:30 am and 3 pm.

The Victoria West Community Association is hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, May 5 called Soup for Neighbors. Join community members in a fundraiser to support those people displaced by the April 7 fires at 843 Craigflower Rd. Volunteers are needed for short shifts between 1-8pm to help serve soup, clear plates, and set-up tables. This is an excellent way to show community support!
