Looking Ahead on Advancement

Mark Turner

As many of you may be aware, over the course of several months we have been working diligently on new appointments to our Senior Leadership Team to move forward with our Strategic Plan over the course of the years ahead.

I am delighted to announce that John Rolfe joins us as Director of Advancement, with effect July 1, 2019. John Rolfe is an experienced fundraiser with a reputation that spans both independent schools and universities. I have witnessed John’s work at Shrewsbury School in the UK, where his efforts allowed the school to deliver a 2020 transformational vision.

Shara Campsall, as the Director of Annual Fund and Major Gifts these past two years and as the Annual Fund Director for many years prior, has continued to do excellent work. It is a great tribute to Shara and the developing Advancement team that they were able to harness significant support for the Sun Centre, as well as encourage philanthropy across our community – such that we have broken all prior records for the Annual Appeal, locally and internationally. Shara will remain as Acting Director of Advancement until John Rolfe’s arrival.

I believe that John’s blend of experience and strategic know-how, along with Shara’s in-depth understanding of our community and deep relationships with our parents, will combine to provide the strongest possible team to succeed against the ambitious targets to be set as part of our new Strategic Plan. There is no doubt that if SMUS is to remain competitive and committed to excellence on all fronts, then we will be heavily reliant on our donors, both for Major Gifts and for the Annual Appeal, to the benefit of our students.

Since I arrived at SMUS, I have been delighted to see the quality of architecture and to celebrate the scholarships that have allowed so many students to thrive – all the result of the generosity of our donors. We hope that our existing donors, together with a new generation of supporters, will get behind the invigorating challenge of raising the school’s profile within these next five years.

I thank you in anticipation of your help and support of our Advancement team, as they strive to reach ambitious targets with the single aim of improving the quality of life and education for our students, both present and future.
