Service Opportunities – January 31

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award office is participating with the Royals to do a 50/50 fundraiser at the hockey game on Friday, February 1 (tomorrow)! They are hoping to raise funds so more young people can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

They need volunteers to help out. You do not have to be doing the DOE award to volunteer, anyone can help out! The volunteer commitment starts at 5:30 p.m. and will go until 9:30 p.m. at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.

If you are interested, please contact Lindsay at [email protected] or 778-677-0654.

Volunteer Victoria is recruiting youth between the ages of 16 and 22. If you would like to become more involved in your community as a volunteer, why not join Volunteer Victoria’s Youth Engagement Team?

If you are interested, please email George at [email protected].

The James Bay Community Project is looking for a children’s garden helper. Spend some time in their delightful children’s garden helping little ones plant, weed, water and tidy as needed. The garden program takes place in the morning, but watering, weeding and care can be done anytime. This opportunity is for volunteers age 16 and up.

Call Kristyn at 250-388-7844 ext. 308 or email [email protected] for more information.

A volunteer reader is needed at the Oak Bay Lodge. The volunteer reader typically reads over a microphone to a group of senior residents in the main lounge. Short, light, stories such as those by Stuart McLean are common material. Training is provided. This role is primarily indoors in a lovely and supportive environment.

Please email Andrea at [email protected] if you are interested!

Luther Court, a local care home, is looking for volunteers.

They need a café volunteer to help serve lunch (coffee, tea, baked goods, soup and sandwiches) to clients, volunteers, staff and community members. The café volunteers choose a day of the week to help with serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then you can join the team for lunch.

They also need a bowling pin setter for their weekly bowling games. You help to set up the plastic bowling pins between rolls. Come for an hour on Tuesdays at 10:45 am and cheer on some seniors!

There are also many other position available, or if you have a special skill or interest you would like to share, they will find a way to get you involved! Contact them to chat.

To apply for these positions, please visit their website, click the ‘Join Our Team’ tab and fill out an application. You can also email Ed at [email protected] or call 250-477-7241 ext. 23.
