Service Opportunities – November 1

If you would like to come along to Hot Dog Wednesday on November 7, please email Ms. Parker to let her know.

Working with The Extreme Outreach Society, we set up a cart in Blanshard Court to serve hot dogs to kids and play all sorts of games with them; skipping, sidewalk chalk, soccer, tag and hide and seek. It is a great chance to connect with some great kids, serve some hot dogs and brush up on your BBQ skills!

We leave the school at 3 p.m. and are back by about 5 p.m. You will miss a bit of 5th period so please talk to your teacher and get permission beforehand to miss some of class. We have a ride down and a chaperone to go with you.

Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers who are 16 and older to help in the ReStore. These are home and building supply stores that accept and resell quality new and used building materials, as well as furniture, appliances and home accessories. All the money generated is used for Habitat Victoria’s home-building projects and operations. It’s also an environmentally conscious decision, as much of what is sold is product that is new, gently used or customer returns that might otherwise end up in a landfill. All inventory is 100% donated!

The Extreme Outreach Society is hosting their 21st Annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday, Dec. 15. They need help with a variety of jobs.

Christmas is a special time of the year for everyone but it also brings a lot of challenges for many families and people in need. Bringing hope and joy to the lives of those in difficult circumstances is one of the main goals at EOS and this is one of the ways they strive to help! People come together to celebrate the joy of Christmas with a traditional hot turkey meal and gifts.

Winter Market Volunteers are needed for the Oaklands Winter Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 1. Each year, the Oaklands Community Association holds a winter craft fair. There is live music and more than 50 vendors. This event is held at the Oaklands Community Association and Elementary School. It is a lively, family-friendly event and is very well attended.

Shifts are two hours long and are between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Volunteers will have the option to help with set-up (setting up tables, chairs, moving recycling, etc.), helping vendors unload, helping the band set up, tear-down, bussing tables and keeping the room tidy.
