Service Opportunities – October 25

Help deck the halls of The Bay Centre to raise much-needed funds for BC Children’s Hospital. The Victoria Festival of Trees raises over $170,000 each year to support research, purchase life-saving equipment and fund the urgent needs of the hospital. If you would like to come along to Hot Dog Wednesday on October 31, please email Ms. Parker to let her know.

Working with The Extreme Outreach Society, we set up a cart in Blanshard Court to serve hot dogs to kids and play all sorts of games with them; skipping, sidewalk chalk, soccer, tag, and hide & seek. It is a great chance to connect with some great kids, serve some hot dogs and brush up on your BBQ skills!

We leave the school at 3 p.m. and are back by about 5 p.m. You will miss a bit of 5th period so please talk to your teacher and get permission beforehand to miss some of class. We have a ride down and a chaperone to go with you.

It’s almost that time! Habitat for Humanity is holding its Gingerbread Showcase at the Parkside Hotel from November 17 to January 6. This is where people come to view fabulous gingerbread creations from talented amateur and professional chefs. These chefs have spent hundreds of hours creating completely edible gingerbread displays.

They are seeking volunteers over the seven-week period to supervise and be on-site to make sure things run smoothly (and that no one eats the displays!). Shifts are between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and are 3 hours long.

If you are interested please contact Christel at [email protected] .

Threshold Housing Society is hosting a Winter Carnival to ‘Shine a Light on Youth’. It is on December 1, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Bastion Square. They are seeking fun, energetic people to make this event possible! They need help with set-up and take-down, facilitating activities and handing out goodies.

If you are interested please email Jasmine at [email protected] .
