The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea is looking or volunteers in Sidney. If you are 13-18 years old and are are interested in volunteering on an ongoing basis, you can apply to work as a volunteer naturalist who greets and educates visitors in the aquarium. Learn about the Salish Sea Bioregion and have fun doing it. This is a great opportunity to build interpretation and public speaking skills, volunteer hours for school and future work references! They provide all the training. For this opportunity they ask for a minimum commitment of 60 hours per year (5 hours per month) plus attendance at a New Volunteer Orientation training session.

The Special Olympics Curling Team is looking for coaches and volunteers to work with athletes to promote skill development, strategy and physical ability. Curling experience is an asset but it is not required.

The Oak Bay Lodge is looking for volunteers to work with their senior residents. The need help with a variety of things including bus outings, activity support, and one to one visits. They will work with you to find the volunteer role that best fits for you.

The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation is hosting their annual Deck the Halls Ball in support of the Festival of Trees. It is on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 3:30 to 9:00 p.m. Some of the volunteer positions available include registration desk, prize distribution, greeters, set up and more.

Saanich Recreation is looking for volunteers for their Deck the Hall event on Saturday, Dec. 1. Come and help kick off the holiday season at the Saanich Municipal Hall! They are looking for volunteers to help children make fun and seasonal arts and crafts, games and face painting. They also need help with the Photo with Santa Booth. The shift is late afternoon/evening.

Volunteers must be personable, responsible, enjoy working with people of all ages, be responsive to a variety of situations and follow directions well. Qualifications include:

– At least 14 years of age
– Satisfactory Police Information Check (they will assist with this)
– Satisfactory completion of Child Protection Training (30 minute video and quick quiz)
– Excellent communication skills
– Enthusiastic, organized and willing to learn
