Did you know that some researchers predict there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050? If you want to help fight plastic pollution on our local beaches then please consider volunteering at Surfrider Vancouver Island’s 2nd annual beach clean-up this Sunday (October 14). You can check out Surfrider on Facebook. You will have to arrange your own transportation.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m. meet at Willows Beach for clean-up (bring gloves and a bucket if possible). Then from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, head to Clover Point to help sort debris, join the Surfrider group photo and have snacks (sponsored by Whole Foods Market). Stay for as long or short as you can! Get service hours and help keep our local beaches clean!

If you have any questions, please email

Shifts are 2 hours long and are between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Volunteers will have the option to help with set-up (setting up tables, chairs, moving recycling, etc.), helping vendors unload, helping the band set up, tear down, bussing tables and keeping the room tidy.
