Congratulations to the Class of 2018!

We are so proud of the 152 graduates who have each made a lasting impact on our community! This year’s graduating class earned $2,898,260 in reported scholarship offers from post-secondary schools all over the world. Among those scholarships, 63% of our graduates were awarded merit scholarships in recognition of their work or achievement in one or more areas, including academics, performing arts, athletics, leadership and service. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for the Class of 2018!

Below is an excerpt from valedictorian Dalal Tubeishat’s speech, which you can watch in full above as part of the Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony video.

Valedictory Speech

by Dalal Tubeishat

None of what we have done or will achieve would be possible without our parents. I would like to give perhaps the biggest thanks to our parents and family members out in the audience or watching from home. We are now at the age where we can appreciate the money that you spent, the long hours that you work, and the sacrifices that you all made in an effort to make our lives better. We’re all here because of you, and for that, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

My classmates, today is the first day of the rest of our lives. How did that happen? The past four years went by so fast, not to mention the last 10 months which went by in the blink of an eye. But looking back on those quick four years, it’s clear to see how far we’ve come. From enduring the torturous walk from “student parking” or the walk to the science building when it’s raining, or finally getting past the noticeable gender divide that lasted a hilariously long time, to surviving our wonderful teachers who seemed to gather once a semester to post all our tests and assignments on the same week, we had our ups and downs these past four years, but they all led us to this day and to the future that awaits us.

Here we are; our diplomas in hand, hope in our eyes, and a world waiting to see what we do. The next milestone ahead of us is the unknown and all its beauty. Ahead of us stand the people we are to meet. Ahead of us stand the dreams we are yet to realize. Ahead of us stand careers to be made, ceilings to be shattered, and ground to be broken. Ahead of us stands life. Let us welcome it boldly. As I look over the many faces I see today, I no longer see people as they were; I see them as they will be.
