On Sunday, August 5, tens of thousands of people will take to Victoria’s Inner Harbour for the 29th annual Victoria Symphony Splash. From a floating stage in the Inner Harbour, the orchestra and special guests will perform, ending with a grand finale performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture – with fireworks, of course!

Saanich Parks is looking for some strawberry and ice cream servers on July 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (the event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The Saanich Strawberry Festival originated as a celebration of the agricultural roots of Saanich and has blossomed into a grand festival for all ages at Elk and Beaver Lake Park.

In this position you will help a crew of 30 people dish out over 3,000 servings in just under 2 hours. Please be prepared to scoop and serve a lot of ice cream. Volunteers do get to enjoy some free strawberries and ice cream at the end of the busy shift!

Feeding Our Future started in Victoria in 2014. Sodexo partnered with SMUS and for six weeks, prepared bag lunches for about 150 kids each day. Many children receive subsidized lunches throughout the school year but not during the summer months. This program ensures they get a healthy lunch, even in the summer.

This Sodexo initiative works with the school. It is the only way they can provide enough labour for it to succeed. The Sodexo Foundation and sponsorship pays for the food and supplies – they just need the willing hands! They will need volunteers for a few hours a day to help put bag lunches together for these kids.

Production times will be in the kitchen of the Sun Centre Monday through Thursday from 1–3 p.m., and Sunday from 6–8 p.m. from July 29 until August 17. No previous experience necessary.

There are also opportunities for delivery drivers to take the lunches to community centers in the mornings from Monday to Friday.

Sign up at or contact or for more information.

The Extreme Outreach Super Kids camp is still looking for volunteers. Camp is just over four weeks away and they are looking for Cabin Leaders, Kitchen Workers and Lifeguards! If you have any questions you can email or fill out an online application.
