Service Opportunities – April 26

The Volunteer Club worked hard to host an amazing Earth Day Fair on April 20th.

Ms. Smith is looking for a few extra sets of hands to help on Alumni Weekend. There is an event on Saturday night in the chapel and they need to move tables and chairs around. Volunteering starts at 1 p.m. in the chapel.

Did you love summer camp when you were a kid? Have you always remembered those great leaders and mentors? Apply for the Youth Internship Program at Recreation Oak Bay!

Now is your chance to give back as a summer camp intern. The Youth Internship Program is working in recreation with children, and gaining work experience over the summer. You will have the opportunity to build your leadership and employment readiness skills in a fun and supportive environment. There is a $500 honorarium. The deadline for applications is May 7, 2018 at 4 p.m.

Criteria to apply:

  • A resident in the District of Oak Bay.
  • Between the age of 15-18 years.
  • Willing to work 4 weeks in summer camps with children between the ages of 4-12.
  • Consent to a criminal record check.
  • Attend 5 hours of Youth Internship orientation and Leadership Training: Time TBA.
  • Attend Oak Bay Summer Staff training on a Saturday and Sunday in June for two full days.

Be a part of the SMUS CAN-struction team, helping to build the Taj Mahal out of canned food (all of which will be donated after the event). Mr. Cook needs more helpers on Friday, May 5 from 5 – 9 p.m., and on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. until it is done. If you can help out, please email Mr. Cook at [email protected]


The James Bay Farmers Market is looking for volunteers! The market runs every Saturday from May 5 to September 29 at the grassy area at the corner of Menzies and Superior Street. They need help with many things such as setting up, the coffee kiosk, kids’ tent and cleaning up. More info and applications can be found on their webpage.


Point Ellice House is looking for volunteer tour guides. Positioned overlooking the scenic and historic Gorge Waterway, Point Ellice House is among the oldest homes in Victoria and was constructed between 1861 and 1862. Do you enjoy history, interacting with the public, perhaps dressing in period costume, and can you offer 3 hours of your time a week?
