Service Opportunities – January 19

'Education is Power' met with the Volunteer Club last week to talk about their amazing organization.

The Friends of the Greater Victoria Public Library are looking for volunteers for a one-day book sale on February 10, 2018. The position requires some heavy lifting of boxes, but the main duties include setting up the tables, arranging the books, greeting customers, helping them find a book and making sure the space remains clean and orderly.

It will be held at the Nellie McClung branch (3950 Cedar Hill Rd.). No formal training is necessary, however, arriving 15 minutes ahead of your shift to prepare is advised. Please contact Paula at for information or to volunteer.

The Victoria Arts Council has many interesting and valuable volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Some areas where they need help include:

– Gallery stewards – hanging/striking shows at venues
– Office support – maintaining records, file management
– Volunteer Communications – newsletter, website, social media, poster distribution, attend community events
– Demonstration/performance in studio or at community events or workshop leader
– Social activities – opening receptions, events

Orientation and training are provided. They are looking for long term volunteers and need people weekdays and weekends, both daytime and evening. Email for more information or fill out an application form online.
