Service Opportunities – October 26

The Monday Magazine Photo contest is coming up, and they need your help! This contest is the longest running amateur photography competition in Victoria and is presented by the Victoria Arts Council in partnership with Monday Magazine. The contest culminates in a large-scale exhibition held at their headquarters at 636 Fort Street. The gallery normally receives hundreds of visitors each week during this exciting event.

As a non-profit organization, volunteer assistance is crucial to the success of exhibitions like this. If you are available in any capacity, they would love to have you! Below are tasks and dates available:

Gallery sitting (monitoring the gallery, ensuring the security of items on display, greeting guests and informing them of exhibition details, keeping tally of gallery traffic).
From October 27 to November 11 (two shifts per day, two people per shift)
11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
2:30 – 6 p.m.

Strike/clean-up (assisting in the de-installation of the exhibition, cleaning the gallery space).
November 12
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

If you are interested please email Morgan at [email protected]

If you would like to come along to Hot Dog Wednesday on November 1 please email Mrs. Parker to let her know by Monday, October 30. There are limited spaces so if you want to go, let her know right away!

Working with The Extreme Outreach Society, we set up a cart in Blanshard Court to serve hot dogs to kids and play all sorts of games with them; skipping, sidewalk chalk, soccer, tag, and hide & seek. It is a great chance to connect with some great kids, serve some hot dogs, and brush up on your BBQ skills!

We leave the school at 3:00 p.m. and are back by about 5:00 p.m. You will miss a bit of 5th period so please talk to your teacher and get permission beforehand to miss some of class. We have a ride down and a chaperone to go with you.

The Victoria Festival of Trees, held at The Bay Centre from November 15 – January 2, has become a cherished holiday tradition and the unofficial kick-off to the holiday season in the city. There would be no Festival of Trees without the amazing volunteers who come together to put up, and take down all the trees.

Contact Danielle Fullwood at [email protected] for more information about volunteering.

The Greater Victoria Green Team is looking for environmental volunteers to participate in fun, ecologically important events and activities throughout the CRD. Some activities include invasive plant removals, planting native trees and shrubs, cleaning up shorelines, and many other types of conservation and restoration activities.

Check out upcoming events and find out how to participate by visiting their website.

The hour are flexible. Sign-up for as many or as few volunteer events you would like.
