Service Opportunities – October 5

Artemis Place Secondary School needs help setting up their on-site clothing and accessory Boutique. They need 2-3 people who can help to organize, tidy and sort clothes, as well as dress up a mannequin to highlight certain outfits. They need someone for about one hour a week after school on Tuesday or Thursday, or on Friday afternoons between 1 and 3 p.m. (if you have a spare!).

Artemis Place Secondary School offers a space for young women, all trans youth and/or young women who are pregnant or parenting who have resisted conventional programs and require an intentional community to find support and success.

The Parents’ Auxiliary is hosting their annual Junior School Fall Fest Halloween Extravaganza, which will take place in the SMUS double gym on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Last year they had a great turnout of student volunteers and hope to have the same again this year.

The link to the sign-up sheet is and you can sign up for as many shifts as you like. Most of them are 45 minutes long but there are some longer shifts for set-up and clean-up.

You are encouraged to come in costume or wear all black, but it’s not mandatory. It is a fun event and there are some really great activities this year including a photo booth, a “scare room”, silent auction, craft table, games, food and more!

The Burnside Gorge Community Association is having a Santa’s Pancake Breakfast on Saturday December 9th, from 9–11:30 a.m. They need volunteers for a variety of duties.

Santa’s Pancake Breakfast is an annual Christmas event for families, featuring musical entertainment, crafts and activities, a delicious pancake breakfast and photos with Santa!

Most volunteer times are from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Quadra Village Community Centre is looking for volunteers for their annual Quivering Village Carnival and Creep-House. Last year SMUS students were a huge part of the event and they are hoping for our help again!

The event is on Friday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. and there are numerous opportunities such as:
– Actors for the Creep-House
– Set-Up and Take Down
– Greeters and Hosts
