Thank you to everyone who came out to the first SMUS Volunteer Fair yesterday! It was a very successful event and we hope you made some good connections.

Artemis Place Secondary School needs help setting up their on-site clothing and accessory Boutique. They need 2-3 people who can help to organize, tidy and sort clothes, as well as dress up a mannequin to highlight certain outfits. They need someone for about one hour a week after school on Tuesday or Thursday, or on Friday afternoons between 1 and 3 p.m. (if you have a spare!).

Artemis Place Secondary School offers a space for young women, all trans youth and/or young women who are pregnant or parenting who have resisted conventional programs and require an intentional community to find support and success.

The Greater Victoria Green Team is looking for environmental volunteers to participate in fun and ecologically important events and activities throughout the CRD!

Some of the activities include invasive plant removals, planting native trees and shrubs, cleaning up shorelines and many other types of conservation and restoration activities!

Selkirk Seniors Village is a seniors home serving a population of over 260 complex care residents and assisted living tenants. Volunteers work in a number of roles assisting to improve the lives of senior residents through meaningful interactions and shared participation in leisure and recreation programs.

This volunteer position has very flexible hours and best suits volunteers who are open to visiting with seniors during weekend and evening hours. The ideal volunteer for this position is friendly, enjoys the company of seniors and is a good listener. Visits could include going for walks, playing cards, reading or general socializing.

Volunteers must complete a thorough volunteer application process which includes a site tour and interview for placement. If placement is agreed upon by both parties, reference checks, a criminal record search and a TB test are required.

The Greater Victoria Public Library is looking for help with their Library Reading Buddies program. Its goal is to provide universal access to secure and safe library services, to foster the love of reading, and to enhance the quality of life in the community.

Volunteers need to be between the ages of 13 and 18. If you like working with children, enjoy reading, are a fluent English speaker and want to help emerging readers, they need you! Reading Buddies volunteers mentor children in Grades 1-4 with reading practice, literacy-based activities and fun. They provide training and, upon completion, a reference letter outlining your volunteer hours.

First-time volunteers are asked to complete the Teen Volunteer Referral Form and register for a Big Buddy Training Session. See for the form, dates, times and for more information.

Craigdarroch Castle has a dynamic volunteer program that sees a wide range of people sharing their time to provide visitors with the information and stories that make a visit to Craigdarroch a fun, family friendly experience. They are looking for a long-term commitment with a minimum of 100 hours or 6 months. You must be 15 years or older to volunteer. They are currently looking for docents and gift shop volunteers.

A docent is someone who provides visitors with a great experience in the Castle. This job entails talking with visitors from all over the world about the Dunsmuir family, the time in which they lived and their beautiful home. The Castle offers lots of training and learning resources, so you do not need to be an expert, they will help you learn!

By working in the Castle gift shop, you are helping to support and fund an important National Historic Site and non-profit organization, and contribute to the growth of knowledge about the history and development of Victoria. As a gift shop volunteer you will assist in the store by processing sales, wrapping and bagging merchandise, restocking shelves, cleaning and tidying the shop, and interacting with visitors.
