SMUS Alumni Weekend is coming up and we need volunteers for the Cultural Extravaganza on Saturday April 29! Earn service hours helping to set up, with food tables, at the children’s corner, face painting, hair braiding, playing Mah-jong, running the bubble soccer and bouncy castle, and more.
The sign-up sheets are outside of the Boarding Services office or get in touch with Ms. Zapantis if you have questions. Everyone is welcome to sign up!
Do you enjoy baking? Are you willing to bring a full cookie tin to the Swan Lake Nature House a couple of times a month? Your cookies will be appreciated by their volunteers. They have regular Outdoor Restoration Teams and Office Volunteers on a daily basis. Please note that several cookie makers are needed because volunteers LOVE cookies! (And it’s OK to bake other treats instead of cookies.) Please contact Betty at 250-590-9276 or BLeitch@swanlake.bc.ca
You can choose when to drop off the cookies, as the Swan Lake Nature House is open every day. They will happily accept your cookies as often as you choose to make them! Please tape a list of ingredients and your name to the cookie tin.
The Cook Street Village Activity Centre is looking for Garden Volunteers to help plant, water and maintain the gardens for the centre. Volunteers will work with the Flower and Veggie Garden Coordinators to help beautify the gardens. This is a one-year commitment that will be a fun way to expand your gardening skills, beautify Cook Street Village and give back to your community. Furthermore, the volunteer position will be a way to connect with and learn from youth, young adults and your peers. They also offer a free coffee/tea for each shift.
You can drop in or plan a regular day with the Garden Volunteers. It is about 1-2 hours per shift. The most commitment is needed during the summer months.
If you are interested in joining the gardening team, please contact Cherie at 250-384-6542 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is looking for volunteers with customer experience to help them out. Volunteers will be processing cash, debit and credit transactions using a computerized cash register and Point of Sale (POS) machine. All training will be provided. Cashiers will greet, assist customers and process small donations. Minimum three-month commitment. Shifts are generally four hours per week. A criminal record check is required for cashiers.
If you are interested, you can find a volunteer application form at the ReStore or on their website.
