Service Opportunities – January 19

artemisArtemis Place Secondary School offers a space for young women, all trans youth, and/or young women who are pregnant or parenting who have resisted conventional programs and require an intentional community to find support and success.

They have some cupboards full of donated clothes that they distribute to students in various ways and need help organizing, tidying and sorting, as well as maybe dressing up a weekly mannequin to highlight certain outfits. They need someone for about one hour a week after school, or on Friday afternoons between 1 and 3 p.m. (if you have a spare!). There are also other ways to be involved and they would love to talk to you about ideas you have.

To apply for this opportunity please contact Rachel at [email protected].

seedy satVictoria Seedy Saturday is on February 18. It is a community seed and garden show for all gardeners. The focus is on preserving seed diversity for gardeners, food security and protecting our environment with sustainable gardening practices.

They need an AV volunteer to assist speakers with their laptop/projector set-up, with the microphone and sound system, and the lights. The volunteer will monitor one or more presentation rooms and will be instructed by professional staff to problem-solve any small technical issues that may arise.

Interested volunteers should be comfortable with data projectors and computer interfaces, able to quickly problem solve, and proactive should any technical problems arise. Minimum 3.5 hour shift, mandatory attendance at 1-hour orientation in the week before the event, and a brief training with the AV equipment at 9 a.m. on event day.

All Seedy Saturday volunteers wear ‘garden hats’ to distinguish them from the public. More than 2,200 people are onsite between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and it’s a very friendly, happy and enthusiastic crowd.

For more information or to apply please contact Lynn at 250-381-5323 or [email protected].

winVolunteers are an integral part of Victoria Women In Need Community Cooperative. They are always looking for volunteers to help in the resale shops. They have four locations (Pandora, Cook, Langford and Westside Village). The stores carry good quality secondhand items and provide excellent opportunities for you to give back to the community, gain valuable work experience, and have fun. They provide training and are flexible with scheduling. Successful volunteers receive a store discount.
