Field Hockey

It was a banner 10 days for the Senior girls 1st XI team. First, thanks to a late game winner from Anna Mollenhauer versus Oak Bay, and then a 5-0 victory over Glenlyon Norfolk School, the team completed an unbeaten league season.

This was then capped with an exciting 1-0 triumph versus Mount Douglas in the May Tully Shield city championship match on Monday. In a nail biting affair, a 27th-minute marker by Mollenhauer proved just enough to bring the Blue Jags a victory.

Sandwiched among these games was a fifth-straight Island AA title, with SMUS comfortably beating both Brentwood College and GNS. Timely goals from Chrissa Tromp and Lucy Zeng took some of the scoring pressure off Mollenhauer, while Angel Tsui and Meggie Edwards also stood out. A rock solid defence kept opposition shots to a minimum, with Tireny Wuraola recording the shutouts.

The team now prepares for the B.C. AA tournament, set to be played November 2-4 in Surrey.

The Senior boys fashioned an excellent 1-0 away win versus Oak Bay. Playing on the Bays’ new turf field, the Blue Jags, led by a gutsy display from defender Donovan Sturdy, competed ferociously to secure the result. Harry Shaw managed the game’s only goal, connecting from a corner kick delivered by Adrian Hof.

The team now faces three huge league games this week as it looks to protect its joint top league position. First up is an away tilt in Langford versus AA rival Royal Bay.
