Service Opportunities – September 22

artemisArtemis Place Secondary School offers a space for young women, all trans youth, and/or young women who are pregnant or parenting who have resisted conventional programs and require an intentional community to find support and success.

They have some cupboards full of donated clothes that they distributed to students in various ways and need help organizing, tidying and sorting as well as maybe doing a weekly ‘mannequin’ dressed up to highlight certain outfits. The need someone for about an hour a week after school, or on Friday afternoons between 1 and 3 pm (if you have a spare!).

The Junior School is hosting the “Fall Family Fun Fest” on Saturday, October 22 in the Senior School double gym from 4:30-7:30 pm. There will be a DJ and dancing, a kids’ fun zone, food, a photo booth and much more! They need some volunteers to help with parking and the kids’ zone (face painting, supervising games, etc.). downloadThe Victoria Global Village Store is a non-profit, volunteer-operated gift shop selling beautiful handmade crafts, teas and coffees from fair trade co-operatives around the world. They believe that Fair Trade is an important way to support people of developing nations to make a fair living and become self-sustaining. Since 1988, the Store has helped create employment for impoverished craftspeople in over 40 producer groups in Africa, Asia and Latin America, providing an outlet where they can sell their goods for a fair price. An additional benefit is that Victorians with a conscience are offered a unique shopping experience.

They need volunteers to be Sales Representatives.

Duties of Sale Representatives:
– create a warm and welcoming environment for customers
– greet customers and provide them with information about Fair Trade and the Global Village Store
– answering questions regarding the merchandise and the producers
– assisting customers in finding suitable products
– general tidying and cleaning (sweeping and dusting) in the store when required
– stocking shelves
– operating the cash register to process sales, make change and handle cash
– operating a debit machine to process sales
– pricing stock
– counting float
– bank deposits
– store opening and closing
– answering the phone

downloadThe Vancouver Island Baby Fair needs volunteers for facepainting in the kids corner at the Vancouver Island Baby Fair this weekend (Sept. 24 & 25) at Pearkes Arena, 3100 Tillicum Rd.

Shifts are:
Saturday: 9:45 am to 1 pm or 1 to 5 pm
Sunday: 9:45 am to 1 pm or 1 to 4 pm

Minimal skills are required, a friendly and enthusiastic personality is a must. Two students per shift is ideal. Please email if you are interested or call Shirley at 250-686-5693.
