Register here if you’re interested in participating or volunteering.

The Story Studio Writing Society is a registered charity that promotes literacy and creative writing in public schools throughout Victoria. They facilitate workshops where the students receive their own bound copy of their authored books.

They are seeking volunteers to type the hand-written stories into a Word document. There will be 10-20 stories per batch, and can take from 1-4 hours to complete. Volunteers are given one week to type the stories and email them back. This activity can be done in a group setting, with other Story Studio volunteers, or independently from home. You need to have access to a computer and an email address. This is especially beneficial for anyone interested in improving their typing speed and computer literacy while enjoying the delightful tales that young minds conjure up!

Craigdarroch CastleCraigdarroch Castle has a dynamic volunteer program that sees a wide range of people sharing their time to provide visitors with the information and stories that make a visit to Craigdarroch a fun, family friendly experience. They are looking for a long-term commitment with a minimum of 100 hours or 6 months.

Currently they are looking for docents. A docent is someone who provides visitors with a great experience in the Castle. This job entails talking with visitors from all over the world about the Dunsmuir family, the time in which they lived and their beautiful home. The Castle offers lots of training and learning resources, so you do not need to be an expert – they will help you learn!

They are also looking for Gift Shop volunteers to assist in the store by processing sales, wrapping and bagging merchandise, and restocking shelves. You will answer final questions the visitors might have and guide them to their next destination.

For further information and an application form, please contact Kate Humble at or 250-592-5323 ext. 32.

Help create beautiful nails! This volunteer team meets on Saturday mornings at Glengarry Hospital (a complex care home close to Gonzales Beach) to provide manicures for the female residents. This is great way to meet new people while having fun and accumulating volunteer hours. Volunteers are needed on Saturdays from 10:30 am to noon.

Please e-mail to apply.

Volunteers are needed at the Oak Bay Lodge, a local retirement home. The volunteers bring senior residents from their rooms down to the Monday night singalong program. They assist residents during the program and return residents to their units following the program. It runs from 6 to 8 pm every Monday.
