glenshielThe Glenshiel is looking for volunteers to lead discussion groups. The Glenshiel is a residence for independent seniors located in the James Bay neighbourhood.

They are looking for people who would like to engage with residents through discussion groups and talks surrounding appropriate topics of interest. They are interested in hearing about your ideas. Some current ideas that they would like to try out include TedTalk discussion groups, poetry appreciation, and world news and events. They are flexible and would love to explore your ideas and interests.

Volunteers are highly valued in this family-style residence for seniors. Volunteers will enjoy the satisfaction of interacting with residents while exploring common interests and sparking thoughtful conversations.

There is no minimum requirement for duration spent or frequency of visits.

IHIsland Health is looking for Tuck Cart Volunteers.

They need people on the weekends at Glengarry Hospital, and you need to be available for two-hour shifts. You get experience in seniors health care and an official reference letter after 60 hours. The time commitment is a minimum 60 hours over six months

kiteThe Victoria International Kite Festival Society needs help! Volunteer Positions include working in the info booth, head tent, field marshals, traffic control, kids kite workshop attendants and more.

They enlist the help of volunteers to facilitate all aspects of the festival, which is taking place May 20-22. Join a unique festival team, meet new people, develop your skills and earn volunteer hours!

Typical shifts are 3-5 hours, but there is no minimum commitment – if you want to help they will welcome you!

Symphony+SplashVictoria Symphony Splash can’t happen without the support of more than 350 volunteers each year, doing things from setting up tents to leading the parades to getting donations from the crowd.

They are looking for good people to help put on this iconic Victoria event, and they hope you’re interested! All Splash volunteer positions require standing for 4-6 hours in outdoor conditions, no matter the weather. Some positions may require heavy lifting or a criminal record check. *Minimum age to participate is 16*

Be part of one of the largest outdoor orchestral events in North America and one of Vancouver Island’s signature summer events! Give back to your community and be part of a fantastic team. Support the Victoria Symphony, Vancouver Island’s largest arts organization, meet new and interesting people while you hear wonderful music in a spectacular setting, get a Splash volunteer t-shirt and invitation to the Splash Volunteer after-party in August, and receive a ticket voucher for a concert in the Victoria Symphony’s 2016/17 season.

Volunteer shifts are generally four hours long and happen all throughout the day on July 31. Volunteers will also be required to attend a volunteer orientation prior to Splash. These orientations will be held on July 25, 26 & 27, 2016.

saanichSaanich Parks’ Pulling Together Program needs an Ecological Restoration Assistant (outdoor position).

Join a team of volunteers to remove invasive species from local parks in Saanich. This is hands-on, get dirty, be out in nature and have fun kind of work! Get fit, learn about nature, have fun, meet other volunteers who care about parks and the environment, and help care for local parks.

Work parties are two hours each in various locations. Time commitment is flexible.

braodmeadBroadmead Care is looking for an afternoon happy hour server (age 14 or older).

Volunteers in this role are friendly and enthusiastic. You will serve coffee and tea to residents and their families at The Lodge at Broadmead. The room is busy and there is always a live band or musician playing. You will work under the supervision of an activity worker. Part of this role involves portering residents to and from the activity room at the start and end of your shift. Shifts are available on any day of the week/weekend from 2:15-3:45 p.m.

You need to participate in a 2.5-hour general volunteer orientation, you get experience with customer service, you make a difference in someone’s day, you gain hours toward graduation, and you will get a positive reference for work done reliably and well.

The time commitment is at least three months (1 shift of 1.5 hours per week, or at least 2 months with 2 shifts per week during July and August).

downloadThe Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is looking for food bank helpers.

They need volunteers to help sort and bag food for the downtown food bank on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The time commitment is about three hours a week.
