Service Opportunities – May 5

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

MSSocietyLogo_WebThe annual Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Walk is coming up on Sunday, May 15. They need volunteers from about 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Volunteers are an integral part of making the MS Walk a success. From organizing and setting up the event to preparing and serving meals and cheering on participants as they cross the finish line, there is a job for everybody!

Volunteering is a rewarding experience that allows you to support a great cause while meeting new people, learning new skills and broadening personal experiences.

If you are interested in volunteering at this fun event, please let Mrs. Parker know. We will have a bus going down, along with a chaperone, and hope to get loads of volunteers to help out!

file3841310827443Hot Dog Wednesday is back! If you would like to come along to Hot Dog Wednesday on May 11 please email Mrs. Parker to let her know.

Working with The Extreme Outreach Society, we set up a cart in Blanshard Court to serve hot dogs to kids and play all sorts of games with them: skipping, sidewalk chalk, soccer, tag, and hide & seek. It is a great chance to connect with some great kids, serve some hot dogs, and brush up on your BBQ skills!

We leave the school at 2:50 p.m. and are back by about 5 p.m. You will miss a bit of 5th period so please talk to your teacher and get permission beforehand to miss some of class. We have a ride down and a chaperone to go with you.

image-315_3cbd9bc7-5056-a36a-0a8864e04e1cdceaCraigdarroch Castle is looking for volunteers for the summer season. They are looking to fill the following positions:

  • A Docent is someone who provides visitors with a great experience in the Castle. This job entails talking with visitors from all over the world about the Dunsmuir family, the time in which they lived and their beautiful home. They offer lots of training and learning resources, so you do not need to be an expert.
  • Gift Shop volunteers assist in the store by processing sales, wrapping and bagging merchandise, and restocking shelves. You will answer final questions the visitors might have and guide them to their next destination.
  • The Cashier welcomes the visitors to the Castle and advises them of the admission cost and that it is a self-guided tour of the Castle. Familiarity with Canadian money is a must, and knowledge of POS machines is an asset as the cashier also processes admission payments. The cashier may also be required to give some history, which will be learned on the job. As this position is the first impression a visitor gets of the Castle, the successful applicant must be friendly and outgoing.

They are always seeking long-term commitments, but require a minimum of 4 hours per week for 6 months (or at least 100 hours).

For more information and an application form, please contact Kate Humble, Operations and Development Manager at or 250-592-5323 ext. 32
