Happy Spring Break! If you are heading out on an adventure, have fun! If you are going on a service trip, please tell us all about it when you get back! If you will be in Victoria, enjoy this lovely city!
On Friday February 26, the Middle School went out into the community to volunteer on their annual Community Service Day. A group of students went to Woodwynn Farms to volunteer for the day and we received this thoughtful letter of thanks:
Dear students and staff at St. Michaels University School Middle School:
Thank you for choosing to volunteer at Woodwynn Farms for your community day of service last Friday!
We would like to personally thank each of you for your recent contribution of time during the work party on February 26th. Because of your support, we were able to achieve some much-needed work with the mulching around our orchard trees.
If it wasn’t for the dedication, hard work, and significant amount of time given by volunteers such as yourselves, we would not be able to accomplish all of the work that gets done on the farm. We would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt “Thank You!” We look forward to working with you again.
Thanks again for your support!
The Woodwynn Team
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:
Once again we are going to the Kensington Seniors’ Home on Saturday April 9 from 1-3:30 pm.
Activities include games, a few students may be helping in the library, a social tea to get to know everyone, a few games on the iPads, playing games on Wii, and just visiting and chatting with the residents. The options are endless.
We will have transportation and a chaperone, so all you need to do is show up with your enthusiasm! Please let Mrs. Parker know if you are interested in coming along.
TC 10K Road Race – Volunteers needed on Sunday April 24 for the TC 10K race. There will be a variety of jobs and they will include water stations, road marshals and recycling stations. The time is still to be determined, but will likely be 8 am to noon.

Pathways and Pollinators – The Victoria Green Team is looking for volunteers to mulch, create pathways, and weed in Fairfield Garden on Sunday, March 13 from 9:45 am to 1 pm.
The site is at the Fairfield Community Place, 1330 Fairfield Rd. , Victoria, B.C. Please meet off of Thurlow Road beside the community Centre.
At this party they will sheet mulch, with a focus on delineating pathways along the garden with wood chips. This is a rain or shine event.

The Costume Loft at Langham Court Theatre supplies costumes for Langham’s shows and rents year-round to the public, schools, and other performing arts organizations – and they’re looking for volunteers!
Loft volunteers are creative, energetic, patient, and love working with people. They are interested in historical fashion, costuming, the performing arts, and the Victoria community. The Loft staff all help visitors put together ensembles, find period-specific pieces, and create looks for productions, special events and celebrations. Each open day, the staff all also put away returns, straighten racks and boxes, and help process incoming donations.
While there is generally no very heavy lifting, there is usually a fair amount of upper-body exercise in working with items hung on the racks and stored in boxes. The Loft is located on the second storey of the theatre, which is accessible only by stairs.
The Loft is open Mondays 2-7 pm, Wednesdays and Fridays noon to 5 pm, and Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm. The Loft is closed on all statutory holidays and for two weeks of manager holidays during the year.
Volunteers are welcome for any of those times (or portions of them), but are most needed at the moment on Saturdays. All volunteers are given training. Visit www.langhamtheatre.ca/ for more information on the theatre.
If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact Lisa Leighton, Costume Loft Manager: firstname.lastname@example.org or 250-384-2025 during Loft hours.
The Beacon Hill Children’s Farm is opening for the season! They have a new procedure for volunteers. Both the volunteer application and the criminal record check form are available at the front gate of the farm.
