For the past month, a panel of judges (made up of students and teachers) has been watching and rewatching all of The Best School Year Ever® contest videos with the goal of finding our outstanding finalists. Well, today we’re excited to announce that three incredible students from across North America have been selected and will be arriving at St. Michaels University School later next week to see our school in action (and so we can meet them in person!).
It was an immense challenge for our judges to narrow down the field to just three finalists, as there were so many fantastic entries and students who entered who we know would thrive and lead at SMUS next year. Thank you to all of the entrants for taking the time to enter The Best School Year Ever contest.
Now without further ado, we are thrilled to name the following three students as our finalists (in no particular order):
- Leah Balter (Baltimore, Maryland): Leah is ambitious as students come – she has really big dreams for her future with an eye on making a positive impact on the world. Her enthusiasm for academics is what really caught our judges’ attention, as she is clearly passionate about being a lifelong learner. (Click here to watch Leah’s video.)
- William Barry (Rothesay, New Brunswick): William is one of the busiest students we’ve ever seen in this contest. The self-described philomath is actively engaged in so many extra-curricular activities – from the performing arts to Model UN – and still finds time to excel in school and actively seek out ways to challenge himself to learn more. (Click here to watch William’s video.)
- Meg Montgomery (Lantzville, B.C.): Meg earned praise from our judges for being outstanding in all areas of her life. Academics, athletics, arts, leadership and service – Meg has a wonderful breadth and depth of interests and passions that would allow her to grow at SMUS. (Click here to watch Meg’s video.)
Our three finalists and their families will visit us on campus next Friday, February 26, where they face a final round of interviews mixed in with fun opportunities to get to know our school and our city. Everyone here is really looking forward to welcoming them and showing them what SMUS is all about!
Then we’ll have one last difficult decision to make: who will be the recipient of a full-year scholarship and the best school year ever? Check back on March 4 to find out!
