In the world of education, September really is like everyone else’s January: it’s when we set new directions, make resolutions, and fine tune our approach. In University Counselling, we start our September with an invitation to all Grade 12 students and parents to meet with us for an hour and find out details about some of those new directions being considered, and we encourage students to hone their approach to school (including staying organized) so that they can reach their potential in each area of their life. If you were unable to join us last Thursday evening, you can find a PDF file here with powerpoint slides and hand outs from the evening:
All Grade 12 students also had their first GTP 12 class this week with their Academic Advisor. In this class, we re-introduced them to Naviance Family Connection and Moodle – essential resources for success in GTP 12 and university applications. We highlight the personal responsibility they must take in the application process and the many layers of support that are available to them. Grade 12 students are asked to see their University Counsellor/Academic Advisor between now and Thanksgiving to touch base about their application plans. In addition to regular school day hours, one of the Advisors is available until 8pm on Tuesday evenings and all students are welcome to drop in and speak with whomever is on that night, even if it isn’t their own Academic Advisor. We are here to provide guidance, support, and information.
Please feel free to contact your Academic Advisor should you, parents or students, have any questions about the adventures that are in store. Happy New (Academic) Year!
