On Tuesday evening, there were over 80 parents and students in the Lecture Theatre listening to our University Counselling team talk about the myriad of things students can be doing now to prepare for post-secondary applications, particularly essential students heading into grade 12. Students will go (or have gone) through all of these topics in Planning 10 and GTP 11 classes this spring and in individual meetings with their Academic Advisor, and there are many resources available to them online (GTP Moodle site, Naviance) and in person. Although we were unable to record this presentation, there are short, topical videos from our fall Parent Information Evening available on the SMUSTube site. Below is a PDF of the powerpoint slides we used this week. Please take a look and if there is anything you would like to explore further, do get in touch.
We encourage all students to take an active role in their own search for post-secondary options by listening intently, asking good questions, doing independent research, discussing possibilities, and fine-tuning the list of criteria as they gather data about themselves and the options. We welcome parent involvement at any step along the way.
