The James Bay Community Project has almost 300 volunteers with a wide variety of skills, ranging from teenagers to elders. They place a strong emphasis on providing supportive and inclusive volunteer opportunities so everyone can contribute to the community and develop relationships.
Volunteers are an integral part of the centre, coming weekly to make soup, wash toys, garden, sort clothes, recycle and clean.
They believe that volunteering builds healthy community and there are lots of reasons people volunteer. Many people walk through their doors in response to particular openings. Sometimes the opportunity is a good fit and sometimes other possibilites are of interest. Some volunteers come with a particular skill and offer to share their abilities, while other volunteers are looking to build new skills. Some folks want to meet others and/or give back to their community.
If you are interested in volunteering, please book an information/intake session with the Coordinator of Volunteers and Community Programs, Lisa Gleinzer at 250.388.7844 Ext. 308 or by email at [email protected]
