Fishermen Helping Kids With Cancer (FHKWC) is a not-for-profit cause whose only goal is to raise money to help kids with cancer. Their founding principle is that 100% of the money must be spent on kids who are being treated for cancer at BC Children’s Hospital.
The spark for FHKWC was the inspirational daughter of a BC commercial fisherman. Moved by her steadfast three year battle with cancer, a fellow fisherman came up with the idea of the BC commercial fishing industry holding a herring sale to help all kids with cancer. Though she helped in the planning, their inspiration passed on at the age of 17, just a few days before the inaugural herring sale in 2011.
They always have room for another volunteer and there are many different jobs. If you can run a wheelbarrow to carry a few bags of herring, take tickets from customers, or welcome customers and volunteers with a smile, they have a job for you. The herring sale is a happy place and you will be welcomed.
It is taking place on Saturday December 6th.
