Walk for Water is happening on Friday, May 23. Free the Children puts on this annual event to raise awareness for the 780 million people without access to clean drinking water and to raise money for our adopted village, Ngosuani, in Kenya. The SMUS version of Walk for Water this year is pirate-themed and packed with fun activities to make it an entertaining and fulfilling event.
At lunch, there will be a photo booth, dunk tank and watermelon-eating contest! Awesome tank tops and food will be for sale and can be charged to student accounts. Sign up for the dunk tank, watermelon-eating contest and your team using the posters in Monkman before May 21. Students can walk all day but they need to ask permission to miss class from their teachers if they do not have a spare.
During the day, students are invited to attempt to walk the most laps with their teams. All walkers are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to participate in the hopes of helping our local food banks alongside our efforts to raise money for the school we support in Kenya.
It’s super easy to get involved and walk for water, so sign your team up, enjoy the delicious baked goods at lunch, get pumped and have fun!
