Sewers Needed for Theatre Production

langhamLangham Court Theatre is producing PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen, Adapted by Janet Munsil to open its 86th season in October 2014.

They are looking for volunteers to help create the play’s costumes between mid-June and early September, under the guidance of the costume designer. Specifically, they need experienced, capable sewers with their own sewing machines who can work with a pattern and do at least simple fitting. Help with fitting will be available. A serger is desirable, but not essential.

They will have a large cast of men and women, with lots of opportunity to sew Regency-era (Empire-waist) gowns, aprons, shifts, hats, shirts, trousers, waistcoats, cravats, etc. Patterns and all materials and notions will be supplied. They may workshop things like accessories and hats.

Volunteers will need to be reliable and able to work independently in a timely way. Experience with theatre is welcome, but also not essential. They will not be creating Halloween-type costumes, but well-made pieces that will go into the theatre’s Costume Loft collection for rental, following the show. Volunteers who work on the show will be given the opportunity to attend a performance and will be included in the play programme.

If you are interested in being part of this opportunity, please send a brief email about yourself and your sewing experience to: [email protected]
