With Novice Rowing training and racing now complete, the SMUS Competitive squad has started its own pre-season program.
49 athletes from Grades 8 to 12 form the largest team ever at the school.
The extensive land training program runs until the end of January and involves running, ergometer work, dynamic warm-ups, core, stretching and various bootcamp activities. All these combine as preparation for a return to the water in early February. The actual racing season begins in the spring. A series of invitational regattas culminate in the Canadian Secondary Schools Regatta Association Championships, held in Ontario in June.
The goal for every rower is personal improvement, which in turn will lead to crew and team success.
