The Senior girls volleyball season came to an end this past weekend, as – for the second straight year – SMUS was eliminated in a wild card challenge match.
Certainly at long odds to make the BC AAA tournament back in September, the Blue Jags improved steadily throughout the term. After a 4th place Island finish a week ago, the team needed to beat North Vancouver’s Sentinel to gain the last berth to the provincials.
Playing at Sentinel meant the task would be even more difficult and so it proved. A fired-up home side controlled play from the outset, grabbing an early lead and momentum it would not relinquish. SMUS, for whatever reason, could not find the needed edge, and, despite working hard, fell 3-0 in the best of five sets match.
It was a tough ending for the six Grade 12 players who have contributed such a great deal to the SMUS volleyball program. Thanks and congratulations to Paris Lowe, Sam Colby, Jessica Jiang, Mikayla Neal, Sydney Witoski and Stephanie Wong-Harrison. All made significant contributions to the team and produced their best play in their respective senior seasons.
