After the rigours of the previous two weeks, with a tournament in Ontario followed by the Bridgman Cup, the Senior girls field hockey team still managed a solid 2-0 league victory over GNS on October 16. In perfect playing conditions, on turf and in front of a sizeable crowd, the two rivals completed a scoreless first half. After the break, with both Jenna Dhillon and Anna Mollenhauer prominent, SMUS took control, particularly down the right wing with Rylee Boyle and Siri Knudsen combining well. Josi Commichau was again very strong on defense, with goalkeeper Shinai Sorensen hardly required to make a save. Two very well-taken goals by Olivia Donald, starting on the left wing in place of her injured older sister Emma, completed the scoring.
With the win, SMUS claimed the South #1 seed in the Island tournament, to be held at UVic on October 25-26. Just prior to that come games against Oak Bay and Reynolds. Wins would see SMUS complete league play unbeaten, a feat not accomplished since the 1990s.
