What a glorious day!
On September 9th, approximately 100 golfers enjoyed the 8th Annual Alumni and Friends Golf Invitational at Cordova Bay.
The weather was perfect as was the course – brilliant sunshine after rain earlier in the week provided excellent conditions.
The shotgun start and the “everyone has a cart” approach allowed all the players to complete their 18 holes in a timely manner with everyone finishing before the shotgun stop signal sounded. By that time, the 19th hole was buzzing with the latest new tall tales of the day. The real stories were clear from the photographs and video taken by Kent Leahy-Trill. They are not all pretty!
This year’s tournament champions were the Lindsay Brooke, Maeve Glen, Gary Brooke, and Matt Geddes ’93 team, closely followed by the all-alumni team of Rob Connelly ’96, Chris Noel ’96, Steve Tate ’96, and Andrew Williamson ’98. The other all-alumni team was the 66’ers: Colin Dykes, David Helm, John McIntyre and Jim Wenman, who placed in the middle of the pack for the golf but first for the buffet!
This type of event is not possible without the generous support of our loyal sponsors – in particular, Great West Life and Christie Phoenix (Ted Balderson ’82), who were our dinner sponsors; RBC, golf ball suppliers; and Colonial Countertops (Brian Kliman ’82, Allanna Kliman ’83 and Jesse Kliman ’07), who sponsored the five KPs; Schibli, Steadman and King (Chad Linger ’00,) for the tees and the many others – thank you!
The funds raised each year make an important contribution to the Alumni Scholarship Endowment so thank you to all who have made the difference in the life of a young man or woman.
This event is one of our most popular so when the call comes next year make sure that you do not miss the chance to join us – sign up early!
