DSA Victoria is looking for volunteers for their summer programs.
1. Accompany sailors with disabilities on the water in adaptive sailboats. Sailors have a variety of physical and/or developmental impairments and abilities, and each sailor has beginner to advanced sailing skills. The volunteer should be friendly, able to safely operate a basic small sailboat, and enjoy having fun on the water. Volunteers can create their own time commitment from once every two weeks to everyday. There is a minimum requirement of 2 hours at one time.
2. Drive the safety boat while sailors with disabilities and their sailing companions or instructors learn to sail in Esquimalt Harbour. The Safety boat is a small zodiac, centre console, approximately 12ft long. Easy to handle and maneuver. The operator assists boats in and out of the docks by towing (if needed), and is the primary responder if an emergency situation were to arise. Powerboat experience, PCOC, and First Aid are required. Volunteers can create their own time commitment from once every two weeks to everyday. There is a minimum requirement of 2 hours at one time.
