Next week, the Middle School will be on the McPherson stage, debuting their production of Annie. For a three-day run, there is much work to do beforehand, from rehearsing to sets to costumes.
To celebrate the upcoming opening night, we thought we would introduce you to Grade 6 actor Emma, who will be playing Annie in the production next week.
Q: What is Annie about?
A: It’s about an orphan who is trying to escape and find her parents. A billionaire brings her to his house for Christmas for publicity, but they become friends. He tries to adopt her, but she wants to find her parents first.
Q: How would you describe Annie, the girl?
A: She’s a spunky, friendly, optimistic little girl. I like that she is so positive and nice.
Q: What made you want to be in the musical?
A: I like performing. I’ve been in the chorus before in other musicals, and I was one of the ugly stepsisters in the Grade 5 opera last year.
Q: What has the experience been like with Annie?
A: I really like it, but it takes up so much of my time!
Q: What are your castmates like?
A: Most of them are in Grade 7 and 8, so I don’t get to see my friends. They’re pretty talented, and nice people, but I like my friends!
Q: What’s your favourite part of the show?
A: I really like “Never Fully Dressed” (the song), but I’m not even in it!
Q: Why should people come and see the show?
A: I like the story, and I think they’d like it too. They should come if they like musicals or stories about orphans!
