The clubs and activities at the Junior School will continue this term, with several new offerings for the children. Teachers and guest speakers provide many interesting experiences that are meant to teach new skills and to enrich the overall learning for the children. It is hoped that all students will engage in some of the activities offered during the year and benefit from the experience of the adults who are leading these clubs.
This term there are a few new clubs being formed at the Junior School. For the first time there will be a Punjabi Club, led by Mrs. Grewal. This beginner’s club will introduce the children in Grades 2 – 5 to the language of Punjabi in both oral and written form. The students will be introduced to the letters of the alphabet, known as the Gurmukhi Script. They will also learn basic conversational Punjabi so they can converse with others who speak the language. They will also look at topics such as greetings, food and culture. The children will be exposed to a variety of ways to learn the beautiful language and culture of Punjab!
Another new club to be offered will be the yoga club, led by Ms. Sandquist. Yoga will be offered on Day 4 at lunch time to the students in Grade 4 and 5 who are interested. These sessions will offer students the opportunity to slow down and enjoy a 30-minute session of yoga. The club will focus on making mind/body connections by practicing breathing and incorporating various stretches in the sessions. Namaste!
Other clubs being held this term at the Junior School are: Green Team, Service Club, Grade 2 Bell Choir, Grade 3 Bell Choir, Red Cedar Club, Primary Tech Club, Art Club, Mad Science, Origami Club and Board Game Club.
