Alumni Weekend, an annual event where SMUS alumni return to campus, ran from May 4-6 and featured all kinds of events and activities. Our students always play a major role in welcoming back our alumni and this year was no exception. At the international marketplace, tables were overloaded with goods that students had collected from all over the world, either bringing in items from their home country or collecting things on their Spring Break trips.
Students also spent large parts of the weekend entertaining alumni and guests. They created fun activities for kids, including pinata breaking, face painting and hair braiding, and also took to the sports field to demonstrate their athletic skills in soccer, squash and rugby. Many international delicacies were also made and sold by students.
Tony Keble ’62 spoke at chapel about the building of the chapel 50 years ago, which relied on funds raised by students. Another big event was the annual handing out of grad bears, which are given to Grade 12 students by the SMUS Alumni Association in anticipation of their joining the alumni community after they graduate in June.
