by Xavier Abrioux, Director of the Middle School
This week, Middle School French teacher Karen Oraas was celebrated at a ceremony at the legislature. Karen was one of three people presented with an award in recognition of her numerous contributions to the francophone community in BC. Karen is involved in many community groups/activities. It was also mentioned at the ceremony her success in promoting the French language through her organization of the Concours d’art oratoire (public speaking competition) at SMUS. Thanks to Karen, over 140 students took part at the school level this year.
The video clip below is in French, bien sûr, but on it you can see Karen receiving her award. Also, a former Middle School student, Leonard Liao-Briere, now at the Senior School, is playing the violin as part of the entertainment at the ceremony. You can catch a glimpse of Leonard at the start of the clip.
Please join me in congratulating Karen on being recognized at this level for her work at SMUS and in the community. Félicitations!
