Student Photographers Capture Outdoor Adventures

There was a time on outdoor education trips that you didn’t have to worry about how you looked because everyone else who hadn’t showered in four days looked just as rough. With the Outdoor Education photo contest, those days are gone, but the rest of us now benefit from the many great photographers who participate in the trips.

The Outdoor Education department ran a photo contest during the Grade 11 out-trips this year and the results highlight the photographic talent residing in our school.

Both students and staff were encouraged to submit photos in a range of categories:

  • Activities: photos of students doing an activity (kayaking, climbing, gardening, paddling, SCUBA Diving, surfing, flyfishing, hiking…)
  • Group photo: photo of a group of students (this might be a group on a peak or a group in their gear by the river or garden…)
  • Teaching: photos of guides or students teaching a skill to a student (a Grade 12 showing a group how to set up a tent, a guide helping a student with a paddling stroke…)
  • The School Pillars: photos that represent any or all of the four pillars (Service, Courage, Honesty and Respect)

Congratulations to Abbey Piazza, Anastasia Efremova, Meriah Drabkin and Shayla Baumeler, who each won $25 to spend at Mountain Equipment Co-op.
