The Junior School students studied the artwork of a variety of artists this term. The Grade 5 students looked at the style of the Impressionist painters and used Claude Monet’s (1840-1926) Water Lilies series to create their own pieces in the Impressionists’ style. The Grade 4 students created two types of collages: one in the style of Cubism based on the works of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) and George Braque(1882– 963) and another piece inspired by the cut-out collages of Henri Matisse (1869-1954). With the leftover scraps from the cubist collages, the Grade 4 students made whimsical torn paper flower pieces. The clay tiles were made by the Grade 3 students who found inspiration from their homeroom unit on space.
