Last Saturday, SMUS honoured the Class of 2011 as well as the achievements of next year’s grads at the annual Closing Ceremonies and Grade 12 Graduation.

As University Counselling Director and Grade 12 Advisor Greg Marchand noted, the Class of 2011 is the first graduating class from SMUS to top the $3 million mark in scholarship offers. This is also the first time in recent SMUS history that students were accepted at both Oxford and Cambridge in the same year. Our overall UK acceptances this year were phenomenal with 12 acceptances directly into medical schools in the UK. US acceptances were up as well with a total of 68 acceptances to 50 different universities including Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, Duke, NYU, and the University of Southern California.

The Class of 2011 has also been accepted all across the country from as close as Camosun College to the other side of Canada at Memorial University in Newfoundland. The greatest number of acceptances from Canadian universities were from UVic with 86; UBC, 61; McGill, 45; and Western, 41. The most interesting acceptances outside of Canada? Sciences Po in Nancy, France and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Congratulations 2011 graduates – we’re proud of each of you and wish you all the best as you go forward to find your places as engaged citizens of the world. Vivat!
