Students in Grades 4-12 sang in the Cross-Campus Choral Concert at Christ Church Cathedral last night, performing a wide range of pieces. The youngest singers, the Grade 4 choir, began the evening with the sprightly “Piccolo Pete” and the tongue-twisting “Mississippi Mud.” The Grade 5 Choir performed three pieces, beginning with “Springtime is Calling You” and a touching rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Some audience members may have remembered their final number “Scarborough Fair” from the movie The Graduate.
The Grade 6 Choir began the Middle School set with “All Through the Night” and “Hushabye Mountain,” a sweet song that also appeared in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The uplifting piece “If We Hold on Together” kicked off the Grade 7 Choir’s appearance, and they followed it up with the more melancholy “Tears in Heaven.” The Grade 8 Choir performed the romantic “Unchained Melody” and the classic “Over the Rainbow.”
The Senior Concert Singers, comprised of Grades 9-12, opened with “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” which they sang in Latin. They then switched it up with the sweet hymnal “Irish Blessing” and the hopeful “When You Believe.” All of the choirs joined the Senior singer to sing “Sanctus” accompanied by three students on the violin, guitar and piano. “West Side Medley,” the final piece from the Senior Concert Singers, was a wonderful way to end the evening.
