This week’s silent auction fundraiser for Gwendolen O’Connor was a resounding success. SMUS parent Patricia O’Neill, speaking on behalf of the parent group dubbed “Team Gwendo” who led the effort, told the Review:
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to everyone at SMUS who supported us in our recent fundraising campaign. It was not just about raising funds, it was also about restoring hope, optimism and joy to Gwendolen and her family, and to let them know that we care. The funds raised have more than exceeded our expectations and the quilt is something we feel Gwendolen will treasure for the rest of her life. Sincere thanks for all your support.”
The school will continue to accept donations for Gwen through Michelle Vecqueray in the Finance office (250-370-6166).
And the tally is also in from the Senior School Library Council’s book drive and sale in support of Ma Facia School in Monrovia, Liberia. The fundraiser netted $1626.86, vaulting over the $1000 goal to help Ma Facia School replace their roof and dig latrines. Students were alerted to the school’s plight when alumnus Dariusz Dziewanski ’97 visited in January. Our thanks also goes out to Russell Books, who gave us a generous donation for our remaining 35 boxes of books.
