This Tuesday, the AP French class performed an abridged version of the Cyrano de Bergerac tale. In full costume, the performers turned out an impressive performance, showing off their acting talents and language skills in tandem. To help the audience members who didn’t know French, the story was presented through the guise of a story being told to some young girls, who summarized the action taking place on stage.
In the play, Cyrano is in love with his beautiful cousin Roxanne, but feels that with his overly-large nose, he is not worthy of her. Out of concern for her happiness, he uses his gifts with language to help a handsome soldier named Christian earn her hand. Soon after, Christian dies in battle and only years later does Roxanne find out that the letters which won her love were written by Cyrano.
