Grade 8 Students Learn About Drug Dangers

Through the Health and Career Education classes, students learn about many topics that can affect their future health and success. Each grade also completes a unit of substance abuse. The Grade 6 students learn about tobacco, the Grade 7 students learn about alcohol and Grade 8 students learn about harder drugs.

This week, Cst. Drew Hildred from the Saanich Police Department spoke to the Grade 8 classes about his own experiences dealing with drug addicts and the different effects drugs can have. He also shared a documentary about the life of drug users in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. As part of his visit, students had to complete an journal entry based on what they had learned.
