There are currently two opportunities at the Greater Victoria Public Library.
Reading Buddies (in English and en Francais):
If you like working with children, enjoy reading, are a fluent English or French speaker and want to help emerging readers, the Greater Victoria Public Library needs you! Reading Buddies volunteers mentor children in Grades 2-4 with reading practice, literacy-based activities and fun. They provide training and, upon completion, a reference letter outlining your volunteer hours. For ages 13-18.
Reading Buddies en Francais! On a besoin de volontaires! French Reading Buddies offered at Oak Bay Branch this spring! Si vous aimez lire, aider et travailler avec les enfants, on a besoin de vous.
The spring sessions will run from February 26 – April 16, 2011. Training for new volunteers will take place on February 19. The branches hosting Spring Reading Buddies will be Saanich Centennial, Oak Bay and Bruce Hutchison.
Tech Buddies connects teenagers with older adults who want to know more about new technologies. Use your savvy and skills on Nintendo Wii, computers, and other gadgets such as MP3 players. You will get to meet new people, practice your teaching skills, and earn volunteer hours. For ages 13-18.
Tech Buddies volunteers are needed at the Central Saanich Branch in February and March and the Nellie McClung Branch in May (training session in April).
