by Brian Yen, Grade 12 boarder
This year’s Business Club, headed by myself and Sarah Kim under the direction of Mr. Hall and Mr. Liggett, focuses on the operations of the Daily Grind – the student-operated coffee shop located at the Wenman Pavilion. At the Daily Grind, students can purchase light snacks, such as samosas and honeybuns, and refreshing drinks, like fruit smoothies and the ever-so-popular bubble tea. But that’s not all. There are numerous couches for students to relax on and escape the academic stress, as well as three fully operational computers for their convenience while sipping a cup of hot tea.
The Daily Grind is open during the Senior School Lunch periods from 12:10 pm to 1:00 pm (Monday – Friday), after school from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm (Monday – Friday), and in the evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (Monday – Thursday). Boarders are welcome to go to the Daily Grind during their prep time.
In addition to operating the Daily Grind, the Business Club can often be found selling goods all around campus. These goods include sushi from Fujiya, Arizona Tea, and occasionally, bubble tea. This year, the Business Club will be set up outside the Lecture Theatre some lunch periods, and during the Arts Council’s acoustic concerts, selling various items.
The profits gained from all of the Business Club’s sales throughout the year will be used for upgrades at the Daily Grind, for charity, and for a dinner of appreciation for all of the club members.
