SMUS is delighted to once again be the only stop on Vancouver Island for representatives from the “Ivy Plus” group of universities, which includes Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Stanford. All Victoria-and-area students, parents, and counsellors are invited to attend this event in our single gym at 7pm on Monday, September 20, 2010.
The Ivy League was, in the beginning, a group of eight well-established colleges (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton) that played in the same athletic league. Over time, the name has come to describe a highly selective group of universities with large endowments, academic rigor, strong rivalries, and hallowed halls. Other institutions, such as M.I.T. and Stanford, are often considered in the same category as the original Ivy League schools, hence the title “Ivy Plus” for this event.
The presentation in the gym will include information on the application process, financial aid policies, extracurricular life on campus, housing, and academic programs. Following that presentation, each admission representative will move to a separate classroom in the Crothall Building where you will have the opportunity to ask specific questions of the representatives and gather more information about the unique qualities of each university.
We look forward to seeing you there!
NB: Be sure to check in with your university counsellor if you have any questions after hearing the presentation.
