Morio Oyake Quote

I had an opportunity to volunteer with the Railyards Waterfront Work Party and the Point Ellice Shoreline Restoration group in first term. Both were restoration work, which involved removing thistles, horsetails, and other invasive plants. I had not participated in many community services before, so it was a valuable experience for me to know what kind of work was and is being done in the community to keep it alive. From participating in these two volunteer opportunities, I learned that maintenance is important. In my home country, Japan, the cities are packed with buildings and there are not many trees around for people to take pleasure in. So I think people should appreciate the beautiful sceneries of trees and plants around Victoria and how they are well taken care and managed.  Morio Oyake
