The Christmas season raises awareness of less fortunate individuals and families in our community. We have a special tradition at the Middle School in supporting the YWCA/YMCA “First Reach” Youth Services organization.
Josie de Greef, the coordinator of this program was a guest at our assembly on November 27 and with her came Vera and daughter, Grace. Josie spoke to us about the impact of our schools’ “spirit of giving” through each of the Teacher Advisor Groups (TAG) putting together a hamper. After the presentation, TAGs began to collect items for their hamper (food, gifts, money for turkey, etc.) over the next couple of weeks.
On December 15th, 18 beautiful Christmas Hampers were delivered. Each hamper was brimming with food and gifts. We are very appreciative of the caring attitude, generosity and support from the students, staff and parents in our SMUS community that made it possible to help these families at this time of the year.
